About the Editor

Before heading west, Alex MacKenzie
co-edited two critically-acclaimed
narrative documentaries, What’s The
Matter With Kansas
and the longitudinal SCRAPPERS (with Aaron Wickenden of Kartemquin Films), both of which were honored by consecutive spots on ROGER EBERT’s "Top Ten Docs" lists of 2009 and 2010, respectively.

Since relocating to Los Angeles,
Alex has worked on films premiered at Sundance, Tribeca, Silverdocs, Venice,
and other international film festivals while enjoying the opportunity to work for several Academy-Award nominees, including SCOTT HAMILTON KENNEDY (The Garden), and MICHAEL MANN (Miami Vice, The Insider) on their post-production teams. Most recently, Alex had the privilege of working on WITNESS, HBO’s 4-part docuseries on war photographers, and is currently editing an upcoming Hulu Original Series following mascots, entitled Behind The Mask.

Besides non-fiction, Alex’s diverse short-form work includes award-winning music videos, commercials, trailers, short films, viral PSAs and comedy web series that have garnered millions of views online. Before LA, he studied with producers from Kartemquin Films (Hoop Dreams, The Interrupters) while at THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO (AB'06), and before that spent his youth exploring the woods and rivers of Washington, DC.
A few selections from films that inspired him can be found here.
